Summer is here and this year we are determined to have a simple summer of family fun.  My girls are 4 and 1; they still love hanging out with Mom and Dad, playing in the back yard, and taking the occasional trip out to the library, park, or splash pad.  I am going to capitalize on their love of simple pleasures and spend our days having some old fashion fun.  When Dad is home and we take a vacation or two this summer, we will spend that time at some of our favorite spots in Wisconsin.  I love this state for its natural beauty and endless amount of things to do.  Here are 5 Wisconsin family road trips to take this summer.

Before taking any road trip I like to make sure my car is up to the task.  An oil change, a good interior cleaning, and a stocked trunk are all in order.  My car takes synthetic oil which can get fairly expensive so I prefer to take it to the Walmart Automotive Care Center where I know I will get great service with quality products at a fabulous price.

This summer (June 10 – September 9) Pennzoil oil changes will be on Rollback at Walmart Automotive Care Center stores. High Mileage is just $35.88, compared to the regular Walmart price of $39.88. {Industry standard price is $46} and Platinum Full Synthetic, which I got, is just $45.88, compared to the regular Walmart price of $49.88. {Industry standard price $66}.

Pennzoil oil helps clean and protect my engine with PurePlus™ Technology that converts natural gas into a 99.5% pure base oil.  Pennzoil oil offers excellent protection from friction and offers a free warranty that covers some engine parts which may wear due to friction.

Once my car is clean, stocked, and my oil is changed we are ready for a road trip.  These 5 Wisconsin road trips are destinations my family and I love.  They are absolutely beautiful and showcase some of the amazing scenery in our state.  They can be peaceful and relaxing or upbeat and adventurous, you can decide how you want to spend your time.  Take a look!

5 Wisconson family road trips to take this summer

  1. Door County
    • Door county is a beautiful peninsula that juts into Lake Michigan.  As you move up the peninsula you find a collection of quaint towns along the shore line and some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.  My most favorite time to visit is in the fall, the leaves are stunning and the seasonal festivals are so much fun.  Summer has just as much to offer with most of the action being on the water. Taking a trip to one of these small towns will give you and your family an amazing outdoor experience and an abundance of local flair.

  1. Milwaukee
    • I am a little biased since I call this area home, but I am now in the burbs and far enough from the lake that we do take day-long road trips into the city during the summer.  Milwaukee is home of not only the world’s largest music festival, Summerfest, but you can find a handful of festivals every weekend to enjoy with your family.  My favorite are the lakefront festivals celebrating the diverse culture in our city; Polish Fest, Festa Italiana, German Fest, and so many more.  Then there are the local church festivals found in neighborhoods all over the city and suburbs.  Many of the festivals are free and there are always discount days for the larger ones.  These festivals are a great way to spend a day with the family where everyone will find something they enjoy.

  1. Madison
    • Wisconsin’s capital is a beautiful city.  Taking a weekend trip here with kids can be educational and fun.  Touring the capital and the gardens that surround it is free.  The shops, the lakes, the farmers market, the children’s museum, there is so much to take in here in addition to the natural beauty of the area.  Little Lady and I made several trips to Madison when she was younger and we are looking forward to spending some time there this summer.
  2. Lake Geneva
    • Lake Geneva is near my house as well, but we have made a weekend road trip of it before.  This small town is situation around Geneva Lake in southeastern Wisconsin.  It has long been a tourist hub for wealthy travelers from Illinois.  A boat tour reveals the majestic vacation homes that surround the lake.  The city offers quaint shopping and restaurants, fun activities for kids, local festivals, and a well-kept beach for swimming.  Similar to Door County you can expect to have a relaxing vacation spent mostly outdoors enjoying the natural beauty of the area.

  1. Local State Park
    • The state park system in Wisconsin is immense and these areas are beautifully kept.  At these parks you can try camping, swimming, boating, fishing, picnicking, hiking, and much more.  Many parks have a small entrance fee that then gives you access to the entire park.  We found one not far from home in Southeastern Wisconsin with a small lake and camping facilities.  We felt miles from home and enjoyed the outdoors and peaceful surroundings.  Find a nearby park and go explore, you may find a get away right in your backyard.

Thanks for visiting!
