This past 6 months my daughter has been really into counting down to big events or important days. She just turned 3 and using a calendar with stickers, or some other visual, really helps her prepare and get excited for the next big thing. We counted down to Christmas with a big Advent Calendar, then used a small calendar to countdown to her birthday. Next up is the countdown til her new baby sister arrives.

Instead of undertaking another involved project like the advent calendar I rummaged through my craft room and came up with a way to make an all encompassing countdown for whatever is coming up.

l dug out a large plastic silver charger. I have roughly 12 of these I got on clearance at Target a number of years ago ( I can spare 1). I then painted the middle with chalkboard paint that seems to be a permenant fixture in my paint stash. I added a ribbon to the back so we can hang it up. I also found a plate stand that it can stand on allowing me to display this around the house.

I used a Chalk Marker to write “days til baby arrives” and regular chalk for the number. This chalk marker is great, it allows me to write neatly and legibly and wipes clean with a damp cloth.

Looking at this in terms of days, not weeks, makes it feel like I will never have this baby. But Little Lady loves it and it helps her answer her own questions about when baby is coming.
How do you countdown to birthdays, holidays etc?

This is such a great parenting idea for little ones. They have a hard time keeping track of time. I wish my days lasted as long as my toddler's days were!

This is so sweet. I'm also expecting. I have about 200 more days to go haha, but I do wonder how my son will be once he finds out about the baby and if he will understand. He's oblivious right now and we decided we will tell him once I'm showing and it's obvious.

Congratulations! I hope he's just as excited as my daughter. It's so hard for them to wait but cute to help and watch them prepare. Good luck to you.
