Easy Shaker Card with Cricut

Learn how to design and cut a simple shaker card with Cricut.

A shaker card is as fun to make as it is to give. These can be expensive to purchase, so why not try making your own.

I’ll show you how to use cardstock and confetti to make this card and my favorite (free) tip for cutting the plastic piece of a shaker card.

Valentine shaker card

Making cards is one of my favorite ways to craft. I always begin with a blank canvas and use scraps of beautiful cardstock and lots of embellishments.

The beauty of a card is that it is small and only needs a few embellishments, this makes it an inexpensive craft but one that is so satisfying.

Here is what I used to make this shaker card.

  • Cardstock in shades of pink
  • Heart confetti
  • Liquid craft glue – this one is great
  • Tape roller
  • Cricut Maker 3
  • Cricut mat and plastic cover
  • Cricut pen in black

Cutting plastic with Cricut

First, let’s talk about cutting plastic with Cricut. You can cut all kinds of materials with the Maker 3, in fact, there are hundreds of options. If you are new to electronic cutting, learn more about the Cricut Maker 3 and get started with your machine.

Ideally, you would use acetate or a firm plastic to make shaker cards. If you intend to make lots of these, then invest in a pack of this material that will cut easily with a Cricut.

But if you are just making a few, then use this tip!

You can cut the protective plastic sheet that comes with a Cricut Mat. It even has a setting in Cricut Design Space!

This is a thin material but cuts beautifully. I used the covering from an old mat. You only need 1 piece for this card design so you can get a lot of cards out of one mat cover.

  6. Keep 1 solid heart and make this a different color.
  7. Select Make it to cut out all the pieces.
  8. The rectangle is cut from cardstock and a pen is used to write the message.
  9. The heart outlines are cut from pale pink cardstock.
  10. The solid heart is cut from a plastic mat cover. Cricut plastic mat cover

Assemble the card

  1. Glue 1 heart to the rectangle.
  2. Layer 3 more hearts on top with glue.
  3. Fill the center with confetti.
  4. Glue the plastic heart to the top to seal in the confetti.
  5. Glue the final heart over the plastic to finish the look.
  6. Adhere the rectangle with hearts to a blank card.

Notes

Use this method to create a shaker card for any occasion.

Add Happy Birthday and switch out the heart to a circle or balloon.

Once you know the basic steps, this design is so easy to customize.
