You have heard me talk often about simple creative living.  My family and I strive to enjoy a simple life without all the excess that typically can add stress to a family.  Living simply does not have to mean living in a bare and boring home.  Living simply is about surrounding yourself with things and people who bring you joy {not stress} and that you don’t have to spend a fortune on.  Take, for example, my updated entertainment area, I used a piece of affordable furniture from Sauder and repurposed it as a TV stand.  I absolutely love how my entertainment area looks.  I moved pieces around from the rest of my home and added a few personal touches.  I look at this area and breathe easy, it’s affordable style that looks amazing.

My new TV stand is a Gourmet Stand from the Carson Forge collection, it’s typically used in a kitchen area.  The wood coordinates perfectly with my living room wood work and other furniture.  I wanted a piece for this space that would raise my TV up away from little hands, and had a difficult time finding a traditional TV stand that would do this.  When styled right I find I can move pieces around my home and make them work in just about any room.

Once I had the piece of furniture in place, it was time to style it.  I didn’t want it to look like a kitchen island in my living room.  Simple creative living is about creating beautiful affordable spaces that make you happy.  I used items that I already had to pull this space together.  The only new item was the TV stand {and fresh flowers!}.

When decorating my home I like to use items that have meaning to my family. It might be older items with great memories attached or a DIY project I did with my daughter.  This nightstand next to my husband’s bed is a great example.  I spent less than $20 on this project and used items in my home that had meaning to my husband.

To pull my entertainment area together I brought a wicker basket down from my daughter’s room that was no longer needed.  I added a few pillows and blankets that needed a home along with some pretty glassware.  The books are not just for show, they are some of our favorite books that we like to pull of the shelf and read now and then.  The white candle sticks are a DIY project that I have used all over my house, they are basic and can be used year round in just about any room.

Simple Creative Styling Tips

When decorating your home, take your time.  Don’t feel like you have to run out and buy every trendy piece available to complete your look.  Go with a few quality items that you love, like the Sauder furniture piece I have, then slowly add in the details pulling from pieces you already own.  Sauder enables you to create, enhance or complete your personal style so your home is a unique reflection of you.
