Get ready for summer with these tips for a clean and easy family road trip.
I really enjoy local travel with my family. We love our home state of Wisconsin and like to explore all the treasures it has to offer. I have shared Wisconsin road trip ideas that are must see destinations, even for out of state folks. Today I am sharing a few tips for a clean and easy family road trip. When traveling with children, a messy car is almost a given. These simple tips will help prepare your car and children for a fabulous family road trip.
1. Prep Your Car with a new FRAM Fresh Breeze® cabin air filter
Did you know your car has a cabin air filter that keeps the air inside your vehicle clean? This filter should be changed annually, or every 12,000 miles, to keep the inside of your car clean and safe. The inside air in your vehicle can be 6x dirtier than the outside air, yuck! The FRAM Fresh Breeze® cabin air filter is the only cabin air filter that uses the natural deodorizing qualities of ARM & HAMMER® baking soda. It’s the best choice for keeping the air inside your car as clean as possible. Before a road trip, check your filter and change it as needed.
I headed to Walmart to pick up a FRAM Fresh Breeze® cabin air filter for my car. It was easy to find the correct filter and my store had a large selection for just about every vehicle. Click here to see if your car has a cabin air filter, and if so which filter to purchase. Installation guides and times are provided by video and via written instructions one this page as well.
Once home, I followed the included instructions and had my new filter installed in minutes. Be sure to follow recommended change intervals as noted in your vehicle owner’s manual.
Your FRAM Fresh Breeze® cabin air filter will come with instructions that suit your filter and vehicle, this is how I installed mine.
The filter installs through the glove box from inside the vehicle, I opened the glove box, removed it from its hinges, then located the cabin air filter. I removed the cover, took out the old {dirty!} filter and put the new one in place. So easy!
Changing your cabin air filter can give you peace of mind in knowing you are helping to keep your family safe and healthy during the many hours they spend inside the car.
2. Prep your children for a family road trip with easy to access snacks
I like to make a snack box for each child, I use a craft or jewelry organizer with a lid that snaps closed. I fill each box with a variety of snacks that aren’t sticky or too crumbly and let them decide when they need a snack. This keeps the mess inside the container and off the seats of my car.
3. Prep for anything with an organized bag
Before you leave home, pack a bag with anything you might need for your trip. For a one day road trip, you probably have extra room in the trunk so don’t worry about over packing. Grab an extra change of clothes for everyone, sunscreen, first aid kit, toys, books, etc. You never know where the days adventure may take you.
4. Prep a simple game everyone can enjoy
In an effort to keep my kids occupied on a long drive I like to pack a few games they haven’t seen before, and avoid screens. These metal boxes (bought on clearance after the holiday season) filled with magnetic letters and animals are perfect. All the pieces stick together so nothing is lost on the floor. A child can pick a letter (or animal if they are younger) and the whole family can try to spot objects that start with that letter.
Think ahead and follow these simple tips for a clean and easy family road trip. Prep your car with a FRAM Fresh Breeze® cabin air filter and get ready for adventure. Where are you headed on your next road trip?

I've actually never changed my cabin air filter, but it looks so easy to do, I may have to change mine. I have about 14,000 miles on my car, so I think it's time. Thanks for sharing this tutorial! #client
