This past week when my kids asked if they could paint on canvas, a request I typically deny, I said yes.  They were elated!  It was a holiday week and we had an entire afternoon to craft together, why not break out the canvas and finger paints.  I helped my girls make these cute fingerprint lights for Christmas.

We used primary color paint to do this craft on a 9×12 canvas.  You can grab a pack of canvas here to use for a project like this.  I squirted 4 colors of craft paint onto a plate then had the girls add their fingerprints to a line I drew with a black marker.  They enjoyed making patterns and carefully adding each light to the string.

Once the light strings were done, which didn’t take very long at all, I pulled out more paint and brushes and let them get creative with their canvases.  My oldest added her name and the year in bright colors.  My youngest created a Christmas scene with the lights adding color to the sky.

Once they were dry we had to hang them up. The girls are so proud of their works of art and excited to show them off this holiday season.

This is a super cute idea and I love that young children can do it too. I think my 3 1/2 year old grandson would have fun making this!
