Friendly Valentine Candy Jar

Valentine's day is a time to share sweet notes, treats, dinners, and memories with those we love. As a Mom, I am busy creating cute cards with my daughter for her Preschool class party. As a wife, I am looking forward to exchanging cards and having dinner with my husband. In addition to my family, there are others that I would like to share a little love with this Valentine's Day. I am lucky enough to be surrounded by a group of great neighbors who have quickly become my friends. I made some Friendly Valentine Candy Jars for a couple of my neighbors to show them just how much their friendship means to me.
I moved into my neighborhood about a year and a half ago with my family. It's a new subdivision with houses going up every month. Last summer we spent our days watching our kids play and our evenings talking and getting to know one another. By the end of the summer, we had all made some wonderful friends. It's so nice to be part of a neighborhood where I can have a meaningful conversation in my front yard. A neighborhood where we can celebrate together, support one another, and feel comfortable letting our children run around and play together. With winter, snow, and bitterly cold days we don't see much of each other. I am counting down the days until Spring so I can let my kids out of the house and enjoy some fresh air and conversation myself.
A friendly valentine candy jar is the perfect way to say hello and let my neighbors know how much they mean to me.
I headed to Wal-Mart to pick up some candy for these jars. I found M&M's® Red Velvet, yes Red Velvet! If you are a red velvet fan these will not disappoint.
The seasonal aisle is chock full of Valentine's Day deliciousness. I also picked up some dark chocolate DOVE® Promises. These are one of my favorite candy, and they are all dressed up for the season as little hearts in red and silver foil.
Here is what I used to create 2 jars and tags:
2 glass jars with lids
M&M's® Red Velvet
DOVE® Promises
Pink matte finish craft paint
Red glossy finish craft paint
Metallic gold spray paint
Brush
Adhesive shelf liner
Scissors
Heart punch
Mod Podge or School Glue
Gold glitter
White card stock
3 colors of red/pink card stock
Ribbon
To create the red jar I punched 3 hearts out of shelf liner with my heart punch and pressed them onto the jar. I painted 2 coats onto the jar and peeled the hearts off while the paint was still wet. For the pink jar I cut one large heart and followed the same steps.
While the paint on the glass was drying I spray painted the lids gold. I love the combination of gold with reds and pinks, it just feels fancy.
Once the paint was dry I added a little bling to the pink jar. I lined the heart with a thin line of mod podge then sprinkled it with gold glitter.
I filled my jars with M&M's® Red Velvet and DOVE® Promises. These colors look so pretty together, perfect for the holiday.
My jars needed a pretty and friendly tag. I made a simple tag using a few colors of cardstock and gold adhesive foil.
I used my Silhouette Portrait to cut the gold foil and created an ombre look with 3 colors of card stock on a white base.
Valentine's Day is a romantic holiday but it's also the perfect time to share with friends how much I care about them.
