A classic drink for St. Patrick’s Day, get the grasshopper cocktail recipe below and learn how to add some festive embellishments.

When I was younger, tween years still living with my parents, I remember celebrating New Year’s Eve with family friends. Their daughter was my age and we were really close. The grown ups would celebrate upstairs and we got to watch the ball drop in the basement. The coolest part of the evening was getting to have a sip of a frozen grasshopper, a real adult grasshopper cocktail.

I was sold on this creamy mint drink from that first sip. Of course, I didn’t actually start drinking them until I was of legal age. But now that I am of age, and have been for many many years, these grasshopper cocktails are a go to indulgent treat.
I made this dessert cocktail today especially for St. Patrick’s day. Get all the details below and celebrate with a grasshopper this St. Patrick’s Day.

This cocktail can also be made with ice cream in a blender, just substitute the cream for a scoop of vanilla ice cream and blend until smooth.
A grasshopper cocktail can be made as an individual drink like this or make a big batch. Just use equal parts of each ingredient. In a blender use equal parts crème de menthe and crème de cocoa and blend it with a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream. This is always a crowd pleaser!
I topped mine with fresh whipped cream, a chocolate shamrock and a spring of mint.
Chocolate Shamrock
Presentation is everything! Top off this simple mint drink with whipped cream and fresh mint, then add a chocolate shamrock. Melt milk chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl. Transfer the melted chocolate to a zip bag and snip off the tip of one corner. This creates a piping bag!
Lay a piece of wax paper on a tray and draw your shamrock or any design you desire onto the paper. Pop the tray in the freezer for about an hour to let the shapes set. Then gently peel them off.
You can add a shamrock to this grasshopper or try this technique to add abstract chocolate creations to any drink!

This refreshing and indulgent cocktail is a fun way to celebrate St. Patrick’s day, especially for those of us who are not big fans of green beer.
A twist on this grasshopper drink is the shamrock cocktail. This drink combines whiskey, heavy cream and crème de menthe.
