A bright colorful floral sign is just what my mantle needs right now to usher in Spring. Not that it’s Spring yet, but I’m hoping I can hurry it along with a little floral decor. Today I am sharing a mixed media floral sign and showing you an easy technique that you can use to create beautiful works of art at home. Be sure to follow me on YouTube for a full tutorial on this project and more simple inspiring projects.
Mixed Media art is simply using multiple mediums to create something beautiful. For this floral sign I used paint, paper and mod podge to achieve a textured effect.

Mixed Media Floral Sign Supplies
- Wood plaque
- White paint and brush
- Floral paper
- Scissors
- Gather cut from gray paper
- Mod Podge
- Paint brush
I used floral paper from a pack I purchased at Michael’s. Packs of paper like this go a long way, if you see a collection you like I recommend picking one up and using it in projects for your home. The patterns all work nicely together.
I started by painting the 8×10 wood plaque in a matte white. While that was drying I cut flowers and leaves from the paper. It’s ok to leave a little white around the edges when cutting, it will blend into the white paint. I also cut the word Gather from gray paper using my Silhouette in a script font.
Laying everything out on the wood before sticking it down helped me determine where everything should be placed. Once I was happy with the placement I used Mod Podge to stick everything down.

To get the best hold with Mod Podge, apply a thin coat to the wood and to the back of the paper. Press both together smoothing out bubbles as you go. Once all the flowers are stuck down, go over the entire piece of art with another thin coat of Mod Podge and let it dry completely. A second coat can be applied to give it a higher gloss if you like.
This technique can be used in so many different home decor projects. Layering pretty paper and words on a wood sign is a fun way to creatively decorate your home.
