A dollar store project perfect for summer, this patriotic hat is easy to make and fun to wear.
I am a big fan of dollar store projects. I team up with fellow bloggers every month to bring you creative and inexpensive ideas, you can find this month’s red white and blue projects below.

I love to craft with repurposed or inexpensive items. Often times I use leftover craft supplies and dollar store items to create something new and unique that I can use or decorate with. This month I picked up a white baseball hat from Dollar Tree and used scraps of heat transfer vinyl to create a patriotic hat.
I started with a cut file from Craft Bundles, you can find monthly bundles full of pretty designs as well as new free designs every week on their site. I simplified the design and cut the various parts from smooth red and blue glitter heat transfer vinyl.
I started by grouping the pieces of my design by color and cutting the red and blue separately. Once everything was laid out in my design software, I mirrored the image so it would cut properly. Heat transfer vinyl is cut from the back so all text and images need to be mirrored before cutting. Next, I ironed on one color at a time, the clear backing of heat transfer vinyl allowed me to line up the stars and stripes perfectly.
This simple red white and blue patriotic hat will be well worn this summer. I have worn it and of course my girls are enjoying it too.
