Primary Color Playroom – Tissue Paper Pom Poms

The first project in this Primary Color Playroom was a bookcase, you can see the transformation of an old laminate piece into a bold and pretty storage unit here.

Next I am working on some decorations, today Pom Poms!

I have seen these everywhere and they looked pretty easy to make.  I played around with a couple techniques and came up with the one below.

DIY Tissue Paper Pom Poms

I used:

  • Tissue Paper
  • Curling ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Thumb tacks

I purchased multicolored tissue paper at the dollar store, they came 8 sheets per pack and that was perfect for one pouf.

I laid out the 8 sheets flat then Z folded them in roughly 1 inch sections.

Next I tied the middle with a piece of ribbon.

Then, to make the ends pretty, I rounded the corners.  If you want a smaller pouf cut more off the end.  I varied my sizes.

Then gently pull the layers apart and fluff to your content!

Didn’t take much time and was a lot of fun, I love how it turned out.

I hung mine from the ceiling. To do this I tied all the ribbons together at varied lengths then pushed a thumb tack through the ribbon and into the ceiling.  This is very light so a few tacks hold really well.

Next up for this room is some wall art.  I actually have the pieces done I am just struggling on how to arrange them.  I think this calls for some Pinterest browsing :)

Stay tuned, hopefully I’ll have another installment next week.

Thanks for visiting.
