Pretty tassel earrings make a colorful statement and are easy to make in any size or color to match your outfit.
I am a fan of statement earrings. I typically wear my wedding ring, watch and a pair of big bold earrings. They make an outfit and can take something casual up a notch. I am seeing tassels everywhere; keychains, bookmarks, purses and jewelry. Tassels are really easy to make so I thought I would try my hand at making a pair of tassel earrings.
Watch how to make tassel earrings
I started with a broken pair of earrings and pulled off the hooks to use for these tassel earrings. You can also buy earring hooks to make these.
Supplies
- Earring hooks
- Jump ring
- Embroidery floss
- Pliers
- Scissors
These tassel earrings can be made in whatever length and width you want. I like my earrings long and determined that the width of 4 fingers is a perfect length. I wrapped a half skein of embroidery floss around my fingers to start. To make thicker tassels, use a full skein of floss. I cut off the end then wrapped it around the top quarter of the loop and tied a knot. Next I cut the bottom loop to create my tassel.
To make these tassels into earrings I opened a jump ring with a pliers and pushed it through the top loop of the tassel. I hooked my earring hook onto the jump ring then closed it and pressed the ends of the jump ring together with my pliers.
When both earrings were complete I trimmed the ends so they would be even. These tassel earrings are lightweight but make a big statement. I have a rainbow of embroidery floss in my craft room and could make these in any color, they might become a summer jewelry staple.
