Unicorns are on trend right now. I see these colorful creatures everywhere; on clothes, toys, home decor and even in food. Remember the unicorn frappuccino? My kids are obsessed and love a colorful treat so today I am jumping on the unicorn trend and sharing a recipe for sweet and colorful unicorn popcorn. This would make a great party treat or just a fun snack for movie night.

Unicorn popcorn should be sweet with sparkles and lots of color, just like I imagine a unicorn would be. However, I didn’t want to coat every piece of popcorn with sugar so I opted for colored popcorn and sweet mix ins instead.

Side note, this popcorn jar is an upcycle that looks great on my countertop, check out the video here.
I started with air popped white popcorn and dyed about half of it pink. Yes you can dye popcorn! I picked up Wilton color mist spray to do it. I spread a layer of popped corn on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Then sprayed a light coating of color mist spray over the top. I shook the tray and sprayed it again to fully coat all the pieces. This product gives the popcorn color but not flavor.

I mixed the pink and white popcorn together in a bowl and stirred in candy coated chocolates in purple, pink and white along with fruity mini marshmallows. You could also add sprinkles or your favorite candy to the mix.

Unicorn popcorn has to be served in themed cups of course. I printed off this cute unicorn , cut it out and taped it to the side of a paper cup. Such an easy way to create a themed snack for a party. Use this same technique to make mermaid popcorn too!

My kids went wild for this unicorn popcorn. I like that it’s air popped and not too sweet and they love that it’s pink and there is candy mixed in. A win for the whole family.

I am sure our next party will feature unicorn popcorn. What would you mix in?

Do you think this would taste good if made the day before it's being served if kept in air-tight container? Or do you think it would go stale?

It does stay good. We ate some of it the day we made it and the rest the next day. Still tasted great.
