It’s October, the air is cool and front porches are beginning to show signs of a spooky holiday that is just around the corner.  Halloween is almost here!  My children are over the moon excited and I’m getting in on the fun too.  This year my husband and I are going with a superhero costume theme, the kids have chosen their own direction but we are pressing on as a couple.  His costume was easy to find, but mine needed a little DIY magic to make it complete.  Check out how I put together this DIY Wonder Woman inspired costume with a little help from Oriental Trading.

DIY Wonder Woman Inspired Costume tutorial and shopping list

I knew I wanted to make my costume, mostly because I wanted a modest superhero costume that I could wear to my kid’s functions as well as an adult party.  The pre-packaged costumes, although stunning, showed a little too much skin for me.  However, I was able to shop Oriental Trading’s huge selection of Halloween costumes and piece together the perfect Wonder Woman Inspired costume.

DIY Wonder Woman Inspired Costume for Halloween

This is my costume, broken down.  I tried to shop thrift stores and my closet for the basic pieces.  The specific pieces I bought and the shirt I made.  Get all the details below.

  1. Cape – Oriental Trading
  2. Headband – Oriental Trading
  3. Bracelets –  thrift store
  4. Leggings – basic blue leggings from my closet
  5. Shoes – basic red heels from my closet
  6. Skirt – Oriental Trading
  7. DIY Shirt – get the details below

Here’s how I created my Wonder Woman inspired t-shirt.

  • Red t-shirt
  • Gold duct tape
  • Wonder Woman logo, printed and cut out
  • Scissors
  • Black permanent marker

I printed a cut a logo just the right size for my shirt.  Next, I laid a few strips of duct tape on my granite table.  I lightly placed them so they didn’t stick too firmly.  I traced the logo onto the duct tape and cut it out.  Then I placed the duct tape onto my shirt and added a little detail with a black marker.

Note: Duct tape will work perfectly on this shirt for a few parties but this piece cannot be washed.  A little fabric glue will help hold down the corners if it begins to peel.

I am ready for Halloween and feel confident that I am fully covered and appropriate for all types of Halloween parties.

Tell me, do you prefer to buy or DIY your Halloween costume?

I love it! My daughter has a dress up day for camp and this saved the day!

Great idea. I have a children party that adult and children are encouraged to dress up in Halloween costumes. The theme is super heroes.
