Christmas decorations are up and my house is (literally) glowing. I love sitting in a quiet house at night this time of year. My crafts, full of lights and glitter, my glowing tree and Christmas lights from around the neighborhood peeking through my windows. It’s such a calming time of year. Today I am sharing a simple project that I have wanted to make for a long time and finally picked up my tools and put to together. It can easily be adorned with glitter and lights for the season. My very talented blogger friends are also sharing holiday projects plus we are giving away 2 huge prizes! Check out my wood Christmas tree and be sure to scroll all the way down to enter this giveaway.
A few months back I shared how to build and paint a wood sign using new wood. I am not a huge fan of pallet wood so my projects are made from new lumber.
How to build and decorate a wood Christmas tree
I started with a long 1×4 piece of wood. I sketched out how big I wanted my tree and how many planks I wanted. Once I decided on 4 I started with the top, smallest, piece. I cut 30-degree angles on either side using my miter saw. For the second largest plank I made it a few inches longer then cut the same angles on either side. I did this for each plank.
To put the planks together into a tree I used wood glue to add a long narrow stip to the back. I secured it with a weight and let it dry completely.
Once dry I painted my tree green then got to decorating. I used a few items from the Silhouette store, a reindeer and a star, and cut them out of cardstock. I also designed Jingle All the Way in a fun font and cut that out of card stock as well.
I traced the stencils in pencil then used paint pens to color everything in.
For a little extra sparkle I added gold glitter to the star on top.
I am displaying this tree in my dining room, next to my bar cart surrounded by warm lights. It’s a very pretty and festive corner.
