This post was originally published way back in 2014. But this same summer wreath is hanging on my front door this summer so I wanted to update this post and share a video on how to make these simple felt flowers. A bright cheery wreath like this one can really stand the test of time and look great in your home year after year.
I have used felt for a variety of projects; my kids flannel board, flower headbands and this pretty felt flower pillow. It’s a versatile fabric, cuts easily and can be secured with hot glue.

Watch how to make felt flowers for a summer wreath
Supplies
- Foam wreath form
- Aqua yarn
- Felt in white, pink, green and yellow
- Scissors or Big Shot
- Hot Glue
- Twine
- Washi Tape
- Cardstock
Start by wrapping a foam wreath form in aqua yarn. This takes some time but gives great overall texture and color. I’ve made a few wreaths using this technique including this winter wreath.
Next, make 4 felt flowers using the technique in the video above and hot glue them to the yarn wreath.
Finally, to add a little summer color make a washi tape banner. Line a piece of cardstock with washi tape in a variety of summer colors and patterns. Then cut triangles from the cardstock. Use washi tape to attach the triangles to a piece of twine to create a banner. Then just tie the banner to the wreath.
This summer wreath has been in my home or on my front door for 4 years. I am impressed with how well the color has held up! The felt flowers and yarn are pretty durable and have not changed a bit either.
I hope you are inspired to create a bright summer wreath for your home. Or use this felt flower tutorial to make headbands or other decorative crafts.
